Vasilije Micic, Nikola Jokic’s close friend and former Euroleague MVP, has been linked to the Denver Nuggets by NBA Insider Marc Stein.
Here’s what Stein had to say in a recent report posted on his Substack:
“With a salary of $7.7 million this season and an $8.1 million team option in 2025-26, Vasilije Micić continues to be mentioned as a potential trade target for Denver given Micic’s close relationship with Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.”
However, Stein stressed that trading for Micic would push the Nuggets into the second round, limiting their flexibility in building their roster going forward.
“Keep in mind, though, that Denver is only $5 million away from the second leg of the Luxury Tax and thus couldn’t absorb Micić’s contract without dreaded second-leg complications,” Stein added. “The Hornets could also opt to keep Micic to play behind former All-Star LaMelo Ball.”
Micic, a 30-year-old point guard, left Europe for the NBA when he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer.
He was then traded to the Charlotte Hornets, along with Davis Bertans, Tre Mann and two second-round picks, in exchange for Gordon Hayward.
He is under contract for next season, with a team option for the following year.
At the Paris Olympics, he averaged 13.3 points and 4.5 assists per game, helping Serbia win the bronze medal.
