Look, Jamal Murray was supposed to be The secondary scoring option when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was down. However, this plan was not executed well at all. The Nuggets point guard was absolutely abysmal on all fronts. He was given 20.5 minutes of playing time per night. However, he was negative on the court almost every second. His supposed superstar expectations were squandered by averaging six points on a horrible 29% clip on all three scoring levels.

Josh Kroenke saw this and did a difficult observation about his guard in the Nuggets’ system, via Bennett Durando of the Denver Post.

“When you’re playing against the best in the world, whether it’s the NBA playoffs or the Olympics, you’re going to get the best of the opponent. And if you’re not 100 percent and you know you want to be on the court, you’re going to try to fight like Jamal. But I know he wasn’t 100 percent. I know getting him back out there is a big step toward the Jamal that was getting triple-doubles in the NBA Finals,” the Nuggets president said.

The Nuggets point guard is dealing with a lingering ankle injury that kept him from playing well in the playoffs and Olympics. However, Kroenke noted that Murray can certainly use that as leverage for his upcoming run alongside Nikola Jokic.

“Jamal is a great player, one of the best in the NBA. However, he personally felt that the Olympics were for him. Reading some of his statements, I know he was a little frustrated. So I’m confident he’ll use that in the right way to motivate himself to start the season,” he added.

Murray can take away a lot from his time at the Olympics with Team Canada. Hopefully, it will push him to become a more efficient scorer during the Nuggets’ 82-game regular season.
