After two consecutive MVP-caliber seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is finally getting the respect he deserves. He’s one of the favorites to win the NBA’s coveted award, and his Thunder team is leading the charge as the Western Conference favorite. He’ll also be a popular choice when NBA 2K25 players pick a team.
On Monday, NBA2K announced its top ten player rankings ahead of the game’s release next month, and it’s no surprise that he’s one of the highest-rated players in the game.
Gilgeous-Alexander was officially ranked 96th overall, confirming rumors that he would be in the top tier of players. The only three players above him, Nikola Jokic, Luka DoncicAnd Giannis Antetokounmpo are ranked 97 overall, one point higher than Gilgeous-Alexander. Joining SGA with an overall score of 96 is Joel Embiid who just won the NBA MVP title a year ago.
The Thunder had a stroke of luck acquiring Gilgeous-Alexander in 2019 and he has improved every year since. He has established himself as one of the best players in the league and somehow finds a way to get better with each passing season.
He exploded onto the scene in the 2022-23 season, averaging 30 points per game and becoming one of the league’s most efficient scorers. Last season, he maintained his offensive production and also became one of the NBA’s best defenders. He is the driving force behind Oklahoma City’s two-way offense and led his team to a 57-win campaign and the best record in the Western Conference.
Overall, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 assists and 5.5 rebounds last season, to go along with 2.0 steals per game. His numbers didn’t drop in the playoffs either, as he averaged 30.2 points and 6.4 assists in 10 postseason games.
His numbers and success confirm his new career-best mark in NBA 2K. He will be a popular choice, as will his teammates, when basketball fans select a team to play as from the main menu.
