The Indiana Pacers had a relatively quiet offseason this summer, but after their run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, this might be the right move.
The team’s biggest moves so far have been bringing back Pascal Siakam and Obi Toppin as free agents, signing James Wiseman, and selecting Johnny Furphy in the second round of this year’s draft. Additionally, they signed point guard Andrew Nembhard to a long-term contract extension.
The Pacers didn’t have a perfect offseasonbut there’s not much to complain about. They’re counting on the natural progression of their players to make another good playoff run. However, even if the team seems interested in getting their core back playing, that won’t stop any potential trade talk.
In a recent article for Fadeaway World, the writer Fran Leiva proposed an exchange between the Pacers and the Los Angeles Lakers:
Pacers trade: Myles Turner for Bennedict Mathurin
Lakers trade: Rui Hachimura, Austin Reaves, Jaxson Hayes and a 2031 first-round draft pick
Leiva believes this trade is a good deal for both sides. The Lakers would get a true big man to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while the Pacers would acquire a few players who fit their schedule and add depth to the team. However, is this really a win-win situation for both sides, and who will benefit the most from this fake trade?
