During their first year following Damien Lillard At this time, the Portland Trail Blazers will not make an appearance in the playoffs. With a 19-52 record, Portland has the 14th seed in the Western Conference. Additionally, they currently have the fifth-worst record in the entire league. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t something to be excited about for the Trail Blazers. They have tons of young talent and potential stars, and they should spark even more intrigue as the season comes to a close. According to Sean Highkin of the Rose Garden Report, second-year guard Shaedon Sharpe East should come back soon:

The Trail Blazers are assigning Shaedon Sharpe to their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, as he continues to prepare for a return from core muscle surgery he underwent in early February.

It’s a rehab assignment for Sharpe: He’ll stay in Portland for the week to train with the Remix rather than accompany the Blazers on the first part of their two-week, seven-game road trip that begins Monday in Houston.

Sharpe has not played a game for the Trail Blazers since Jan. 11 due to an abdominal injury.

This season, the 20-year-old has played in 32 games for Portland and started 25. In those games, Sharpe averaging 15.9 points, 5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

The potential of Shaedon Sharpe

The Kentucky alum has shown great promise in his two seasons in the NBA thus far. Sharpe is an athletic winger who can score just about anywhere on the field. He can create his own plane either on the perimeter or towards the paint. Additionally, his 6’6″ frame and impressive athleticism give him the tools to be a great defender in the league. And with him already being so talented at such a young age, there’s plenty of reason to be excited about Sharpe’s potential. Last year, head coach Chauncey Billups said he wanted Sharpe “to be Devin Booker one day.” It’s clear that expectations for Sharpe are high within the Portland organization.
