Former NBA point guard Patrick Beverley recently signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel. After spending 12 seasons in the NBA, Beverley left the club for a bigger role overseas.
A top player during his NBA career, Beverley was selected to three All-Defensive teams (including a first team). Also known for his ability to insult others, Beverley was known for this during his time in the NBA.
One viral story about Beverley that is still circulating online is when he allegedly told Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry that “the next five years” were his after the LA Clippers drafted Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. This quote has been shared countless times on social media, but according to Beverley, it was never actually said.
On a recent episode of her Pat Bev podcast, Beverley said: “It was like, ‘No, you’ve had your moment and now it’s time to change.’ It never lasted five years. But it was good. You know me, I’m like, ‘Okay, let me do it.’”

This isn’t the first time Beverley has refuted the story, as he sent a message in 2021 claiming he never said it.
You need to relax. I never said that. Stop listening to the internet. 🤦🏾♂️ It’s still really funny https://t.co/eBIVBUs5Aj

Many fans criticized Beverley for leaving the NBA five years after his comments, while Curry went on to add another title, an Olympic gold medal and several individual accomplishments. That said, Beverley claims he never said anything about the next five years being his.
