Before a major professional sports schedule is released, there is always a social media team that takes advantage of the opportunity to boost engagement. This remains true for the Phoenix Suns, whose Account X spent most of August 15 shooting at opposing franchises.
Among the satirical posts, Phoenix took aim at Brooklynites, claiming that the borough’s citizens often side with the New York Knicks over the Nets.

While the post didn’t really bother many people, Phoenix has unnecessarily put a huge target on its back. Cam Johnson will certainly have some extra motivation when he faces his former team on November 27.
The narrative that the Phoenix joke tried to push is tired. Yes, the Knicks are and always will be one of the most valuable and recognizable brands in existence. Thanks to Bob Windrem of NetsDailyWe know that the gap between New York and Brooklyn has narrowed exponentially. The Barclays Center sold out 99% of its games last season, just 0.6% less than Madison Square Garden.
Given the panic that followed the Suns’ disastrous playoff exit last April, it’s ironic that they’re the first franchise to try to shake things up online. The social media team must have short memories, as they were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in a complete meltdown.
Is Phoenix currently better than the Nets? Sure, but Brooklyn definitely has a future ahead of it. And the best part is that the Nets’ future will be built entirely on the Suns’ first-round picks. Sounds good, right?
