What there is to know
The Thunder will play the full four quarters on Wednesday, but things are expected to be over well before that. Their road trip will continue as they take on the Portland Trail Blazers at 10 p.m. ET on March 6 at the Moda Center in the Rose Quarter. Given that both men suffered a loss in their last match, they both have a little more motivation heading into this match.
Last Monday, Oklahoma City failed against the Lakers and lost 116-104. The Thunder took an early lead (up by 12 with 5:57 left in the first quarter), but unfortunately, they were unable to maintain that momentum.
Meanwhile, Portland was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Monday as they lost 119-114 to the Timberwolves. The Trail Blazers have struggled recently against the Timberwolves, with their game on Monday being their fourth straight loss.
This defeat does not tell the whole story, because several players had good matches. One of the most active was Anfernee Simons, who had a double-double with 34 points and 14 assists.
Oklahoma City’s loss dropped its record to 42-19. As for Portland, they haven’t been great recently as the team has lost ten of their last 12 games, which took a major dent in their 17-43 record this season.
This competition is shaping up to be a blast: the Thunder simply cannot fail this season, having made 50.1% of their shots per game (they are ranked second in field goal percentage). It’s a different story for the Trail Blazers, as they’ve made just 44 percent of their shots this season. Given the Thunder’s considerable advantage in this area, the Trail Blazers will need to find a way to close this gap.
The Thunder bypassed the Trail Blazers 111-109 in their previous meeting in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won’t have home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change of location makes a difference.
