One night, after settling my affairs on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Warriors of the Golden State will leave the United States to assume the Toronto Raptors in the house that Drake built.

How far we’ve come since these two teams faced off in 2019 for the league championship in NBA Finals. The Warriors are back on top of the mountain since their elimination in Game 6 at the hands of Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakim, iteration of the Raps. The Dubs won a title in 2022, while Toronto could never suppress that magic from its title run.

The Dubs received a lot of criticism from their fans and themselves for a pretty performance midway through this regular season, cruising their way to a 31-27 record that would have looked like a extreme poverty for the franchise during the height of their dynasty, but probably would have been quite encouraging during the early Steph Curry era, when the team was terrible.

During this time, the Raptors achieved a record of 22-37, their season being an assortment of difficult nights and withered hopes:

As the reality of the Raptors’ two major trades (OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks and Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers) begins to sink in and the long road to competitiveness becomes apparent, it’s worth revisiting some of these concepts. More precisely: when is a victory really a victory, and when is a defeat really a victory?

Oh we’re in tank mode, huh, Toronto? DIFFICULT, I’ve been there for several years. I will pour 40 ounces of alcohol on Canadians tonight.

And I hope the Warriors deploy their winning methods even more. Since Draymond Green returned from suspension on January 15, the Warriors are 13-6 and showing signs of looking like a team that could make some noise in the playoffs (if they make it).
