Ja’Kobe Walter has been busy in the gym with the start of training camp fast approaching, and the Toronto Raptors The newbie recently offered a glimpse of some of his field work on Instagram.
Walter was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year last season at Baylor after averaging 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals on 34.1 percent three-point shooting in 35 games. His 508 points rank second all-time by a freshman in program history.
The 19th overall pick was photographed going through a variety of drills during his recent workout, from dribbling to shooting, at the Sports Academy in Frisco, Texas. He spent most of the offseason at the facility and appears to be in great shape as training camp begins Oct. 1.
Walter made his debut with the Raptors in the NBA Summer League, averaging 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and one assist on 34.8 percent shooting in five appearances. He scored double-digits three times, including 16 points and three rebounds to cap off his run on July 21.
The 6-foot-5 point guard established himself as a solid scorer at Baylor who could shut down defenses. He also knows how to space the floor, which is something the Raptors were looking for in the draft. The organization appears to have found another talented player to add to its core in Walter.
Walter expects to have an opportunity to carve out a role as the Raptors look to build on key players Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick And Emmanuel Quickleyamong others. The organization is delighted to add him to its team and looks forward to seeing him begin his career.
