Fear not, Hawks fans, there will be a Sixth Man squad this season.
The popular section of State Farm Arena will continue to be part of the fan experience. Social media reported Tuesday that the section was being removed.
According to a Hawks spokesperson, the section will be renamed for the upcoming season. It has remained largely the same for many years, since its inception in 2009. The section is known for being loud and a constant source of cheer that has often drawn the attention of Hawks players and some opposing players, who are greeted with chants.
“Their job is to scream at the top of their lungs,” said Drew Frank, a play-calling coordinator for the Hawks who helped launch the 6th Man squad when he interned in the spring of 2009 as a junior at Georgia Tech. an article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2018“We want the most rabid fans.”
