Jason Kidd risked the wrath of Boston Celtics fans when he said Jaylen Brown was the Celtics’ best player heading into the NBA Finals game against the The Dallas Mavericks. Many saw Kidd’s comments as a way to stir up internal tension within the Boston locker room. Fortunately for the Celtics, their camaraderie was too strong to be shaken for so long in the playoffs.
Kidd has since defended his remarks, stressing that he was sharing an opinion and an observation. He pointed to Brown winning the NBA Finals MVP award as justification for his remarks. Still, there was undoubtedly some guile on Kidd’s part.
In a recent episode of the Podcast “What about the Celtics?” Hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance broke down Kidd’s comments and opened a discussion about his original intentions. Was Kidd trying to create drama in the Celtics locker room? Or was he simply sharing an innocent opinion about an impending opponent?
