The Houston Rockets are showing signs of life this month and they are NBA Odds road favorites against the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
While the Rockets have fallen out of the playoffs after a strong start to the season, they are 4-1 so far in March, including Sunday’s 112-104 road win over the Sacramento Kings.
That stretch also featured a 114-101 win over the Spurs, led by 45 points and 16 rebounds from the now-injured Alperen Sengun. San Antonio enters this final game coming off a 112-102 loss to the Golden State Warriors last night, dropping their record to 14-51.

It would have been a shame to see the Houston RocketsThe bounce-back season ends with a whimper, so their revival in March was a welcome sight. Sneaking into a play-in spot seems unlikely — they’re five games out of 10th place — but last week was encouraging for Houston.
Fred VanVleet has been a big factor in creating a new vibe for the Rockets this year with his veteran presence and championship experience. It’s his recent play that seems to have steadied the ship in H-Town, and that’s where I’m looking for my best bet tonight.
With Alperen Sengun out, VanVleet is going to take on even more playmaking responsibilities. I love the Over on this assist prop here, especially with the slight positive odds.
“Steady Freddie” has scored nine dimes or more in four of his five games this month, and he has 10 assists against the San Antonio Spurs last week. He’s also logged 38 minutes or more in four of his last five outings.
This looks like a formula for a strong VanVleet stat line at Frost Bank Center, especially with the Spurs giving up 120 points per game this season. With Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks ready to load up more shots, I see VanVleet leaning into a setup role.

Brooks rarely needs encouragement to let it fly, even if his shot selection has improved a bit since joining the Rockets.
With injuries to Sengun and Cam Whitmore leaving the visitors a little light tonight, I’m happily picking Brooks to fill the void.
The Canadian’s scoring has declined significantly since averaging nearly 15 points per game in January and he has been held to single-digit points in four of his last seven games. Still, the volume will be there for Brooks in this spot and I expect him to respond.
I also take the Rockets to stay warm. They have the remainder advantage over Spurs, who were in action last night, and they have won four of the last five meetings between the teams.
Despite wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Warriors in the last two weeks, San Antonio is 3-7 in its last 10 games. I’m comfortable setting up the points with Houston here.

Spread Rockets vs Spurs and Over/Under analysis
Houston has been a reliable ATS pick this season with a 35-28-1 ATS record, and that’s surely a factor in the visitors being slight road favorites tonight.
The Rockets are an ugly 8-24 away from the Toyota Center, but I’d rather focus on the recent road wins against the Kings and Suns. VanVleet & Co. appear to be moving in the right direction once again, and they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 outings.
That’s enough to give Houston an advantage against a San Antonio team that is 7-22 at home and had a close battle against Golden State last night. It will be worth seeing how careful Spurs are with Victor Wembanyama in this back-to-back situation.
The Under has scored in six of the Rockets’ last nine games, including the hard-fought win over Sacramento this weekend. Meanwhile, he has also been a winner in five of Spurs’ last eight games.
Also keep in mind that Houston is missing some of its punch tonight and San Antonio has every reason to lighten the minutes of Wemby and Devin Vassell, who have both been injured over the past week.
