The Toronto Raptors aren’t expected to be a playoff contender in the 2024-25 season. However, they still have some interesting pieces in Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and others. They should be a competitive team night in and night out, but the creators of NBA 2K25 don’t think they’ll be very good.

NBA 2K25 is set to release on September 6, which means the game’s player and team ratings have been revealed regularly over the past month.

There are a few expected picks, like having Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid tied for best overall player with 98 ratings, followed by a tie between Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Giannis Antetokounmpo at 97.

But the Raptors, from top to bottom, have received surprisingly low grades. It starts with Barnes. The Raptors star started last season with an 83 rating and improved to an 85 by season’s end. Considering the natural progression of young playershe was expected to see an increase in his overall score of 85.

Instead, NBA 2K25 has kept him at that 85 to start this season as well. He’s the highest-rated player on the Raptors. Behind him are the former Knicks – Barrett and Quickley – who are both 81s. OG Anunoby – the player they traded to get Barrett and Quickley – received a surprising 84 overall.

Poeltl is behind those two with an 80 overall rating and Kelly Olynyk rounds out the top five with an 80 as well. The Raptors have the second-worst overall team rating – 80 – in the league, ahead of only the Washington Wizards.

No one expects the Raptors to be a very good team this season. However, 2K25 seems to have a very low opinion of what the Raptors have this season. There are many better options for the second worst team in the league ahead of the Wizards. Barnes, at the very least, could be above 85 given that’s where he finished last season.

Finally, another former Raptor traded last season, Pascal Siakam, received an 88 grade in his first full campaign as a member of the Indiana Pacers. He is the second-highest-rated Pacer behind 90-rated point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who just finished his participation with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
