The Philadelphia 76ers have a formidable team heading into the 2024-25 NBA season, and it’s unlikely that the roster will change drastically unless something happens. That said, the franchise is led by someone who doesn’t have the word “settle” in his vocabulary. Need I say more?
As a result, it would probably be prudent to give the still-active forecasters the benefit of the doubt. There have been a considerable amount of zero minutes played by anyone so far, but hey, it’s Daryl Morey. Either way, the 76ers are still well-positioned to make a change of guard, even a minor one, at the margin.
Philadelphia will likely weigh anchor on the trade market at some point this season, especially after a few months of inactivity. December is when teams will have the most ammunition to put on the trading table. Unsurprisingly, predictions are starting to circulate online.
Bleacher Report predicts that the 76ers go get some names to improve the roster to some extent, and one player they have mentioned as a potential target is former Sixers forward Georges Niang, who played for the franchise not too long ago.
The big but crafty three-point shooter was a key player for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, operating as the team’s resident guard from both forward positions. Despite his square-in-a-round-hole style, he continued to be a productive backup thanks to his perimeter prowess and ability to stay in front of guys who have moderate foot speed at best.
The 76ers, who still need reinforcements up front, could actually benefit from a Niang reunion. They have KJ Martin’s contract and a few second-rounders to spare, and the veteran would likely be willing to take a second-rounder to Philadelphia.
It’s still too early to speak with any resolution about what should be, but Georges Niang is certainly a name to watch for the Philadelphia 76ers if they find themselves in need of more shooting and perhaps, fan rate.
