NBA 2K25 hit stores Wednesday morning, marking the start of a new basketball season. With training camp just around the corner, the video game’s release will keep NBA fans busy until the season begins.

With the new game out, we ran a simulation of the 2024-25 season to see what NBA 2K thinks will happen this season. The settings were simple, controlling the Oklahoma City Thunder, we didn’t accept any trades with injuries turned off for all teams to ensure an accurate representation of what the game thinks will happen. However, the results were still incredible.

Before we dive into what happened at the end of the season, one notable result for the Thunder happened midway through the campaign: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the only OKC Thunder player to make the All-Star team while Chet Holmgren played in the Rising Stars game for the second straight year. They were the only All-Star weekend participants for Oklahoma City.

  15. Charlotte Hornets (21-61)

I have no idea what the 2K simulation engine is cooking up in the East and it’s safe to assume Chris Paul is back with a 0.2 percent chance of making the playoffs with these results.

Oklahoma City outlasted the Sacramento Kings in a six-game series to open the playoffs after the Kings cruised through the Play-In Tournament en route to the No. 8 seed. In the second round, the Thunder faced the LA Clippers where the Thunder lost Game 1 of the series before eliminating the Clippers in five games.

Western Conference Finals:

The Oklahoma City Thunder met the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are making their second straight appearance after beating the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks in the first two rounds.

Oklahoma City earned its third sweep in franchise history by eliminating the Timberwolves in quick succession.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the Western Conference Finals MVP award while averaging 32.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.7 steals and half a block per game while shooting 57 percent from the floor, 96 percent from the free throw line and 31 percent from beyond the arc.

Eastern Conference Finals:

The Chicago Bulls’ miraculous run continued throughout the Eastern Conference, earning them a spot in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. However, the bright lights of Broadway proved too bright for their Windy City opponents, as the Knicks defeated the Bulls in five games to advance to the NBA Finals.

Jalen Brunson won the Eastern Conference MVP award while averaging 30.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor, 84.8 percent from the free throw line and 42.9 percent from three-point range.

NBA Finals:

In a fun NBA Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the New York Knicks, with Oklahoma City having home-court advantage. That didn’t help in Game 1, though, as the Knicks got off to a hot start by winning Game 1 at the Paycom Center.

After splitting in Oklahoma City, the Knicks won just one more game as the Thunder marched to their first-ever NBA title in Bricktown, led by Gilgeous-Alexander who earned Finals MVP honors while averaging 31.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks on 48.2 percent field goal percentage, 27.6 percent from beyond the free throw line and 84.9 percent from the field.

Second All-Defensive Team:

While we declined all of these trades to ensure the first season was simulated with realistic rosters, each offer was attractive for very different reasons.

The Utah Jazz have won the Cooper Flagg draft lottery in the 2025 NBA Draft.
