THE The Philadelphia 76ers They landed the most talented and biggest name in the market when they tapped Paul George on a four-year, $212 million contract. The nine-time All-Star leaves his hometown of Los Angeles and heads to the East Coast to play for the Sixers and look to get them over the hump in a tough Eastern Conference.
George is coming off a terrific season with the Clippers, where he averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from three-point range on 7.9 attempts. He was named an All-Star and will look to be the team’s third-leading scorer this season. Philadelphia.
That being said, it is likely that this contract signed by the Sixers will be his last. He will be 38 years old at the end of his contract and it is reasonable to think that he will be at the end of his career by then.
However, George revealed on “Podcast P with Paul George” that this is not the case:
That was one of the strong points of Philly, and I forgot to mention it. We still believe in you way beyond what they say, we hope after this contract you still want to wear the Sixers jersey, but they say we still believe you can play until you’re 40. That’s how much we believe in you. So when you have that belief on your side, and again, I believe I can play, still play at a high level for a long time.
The Sixers and George raise an interesting point. It’s not like George is relying solely on his athleticism, which will eventually fade and disappear as a player ages. His game is more about his skills, getting to his spots and scoring baskets. This is a situation where George could possibly last into his 40s and provide the Sixers with long-term production.
