THE The Philadelphia 76ers had a busy offseason with the additions of Paul George and a series of confirmed actors to add to the base of Joel Embiid And Tyrese MaxeyPresident of basketball operations Daryl Morey and his staff have done a tremendous job of leveraging the salary cap space they have.

The only downside to adding so many new faces to the Sixers is the lack of chemistry between them. That’s the challenge facing players like George, Caleb Martin, Eric Gordonand others will face as they join this talented Sixers team.

ESPN Rankings the continuity of each team as the 2024-25 season approaches based on who brought back the most players and how the rosters changed. The Sixers come into the standings tied for 28th with the Toronto Raptors:

Just as more continuity doesn’t always equal better quality, the Sixers are an example that less continuity isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Philadelphia lands here in the rankings because just three of its top nine WAR earners from 2023-24 are still on the roster, in addition to the departure of nearly half of its three-year weighted WAR — and the loss of 67% of its three-year weighted minutes, the highest share in the league.

And yet, the Sixers also have the third-best odds in the league to win the title (+750) with an over/under of 52.5, according to ESPN BET. That’s because, despite this discrepancy, the 76ers still managed to bring back WAR leaders Embiid and Maxey, then used the salary cap space freed up by those other departures to add free agent Paul George as a third star to potentially put them over the top.

The Sixers will be looking to turn the corner next season. Led by George, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers probably have the best chance of upsetting the defending champion Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference. It will just depend on how quickly these three can come to an agreement and get everyone on the same page when the playoffs roll around.
