Sergi Oliva continues to make great strides in his NBA career and will now enjoy a new experience as head coach of the Rip City Remix; that is, the G League team affiliated with the Portland Trail Blazers, as the Oregon franchise itself has made official.

Born in Gelida (Barcelona) 40 years ago, for Oliva this adventure began in 2014, when, as a Catalan amateur and grassroots basketball coach, the Philadelphia 76ers called him. He then packed his bags and was hired as a basketball operations analyst. The Pennsylvanians were very impressed by the fact that Sergi applied his studies in computer science and complexity theory at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia to basketball.

That was the first step. He then climbed the franchise ladder to become vice president of strategy, then He joined the Utah Jazz to be Quinn Snyder’s assistant between the years 2020 and 2022. And from there He went to the Blazers as an assistant general manager; that is, working side by side with Joe Cronin.

Now, and after proving himself in Portland, the team has trusted him as head coach of its G League affiliate. This will be a temporary position, because according to Adrian Wojnarowski, the organization’s wish is for him to coach the team this year and return to his position in the offices when the season ends in the aforementioned G League. In any case, it is one more step forward in his excellent career.
