San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle will miss the remainder of the NBA Summer League after suffering a wrist injury, according to the San Antonio Express-News Tom Orsborn.

Castle suffered a sprained right wrist in the Spurs’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers. While it appears to be a minor injury, according to Orsborn, San Antonio feels it’s best not to take a chance on the No. 4 overall pick.

Castle said he supported the #Spurs“decision to sideline him for the remainder of Summer League after he suffered a sprained wrist in his Vegas debut:
“I feel like they have my best interests at heart. I think it’s wise to err on the side of caution.”https://t.co/JbHFnj2zQw

Despite only playing a handful of games in Summer League, Castle impressed early on. The UConn product scored 12 points in his debut and followed that up with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists against China. On Saturday, Castle had 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

He quickly showed why the Spurs used the No. 4 pick on him and San Antonio fans must be excited to see him playing alongside star Victor Wembanyama.

In his lone year at UConn last season, Castle averaged 11.1 points and helped the Huskies win a second straight national title. At just 19 years old, he has plenty of time to continue to develop and refine his game.

In his first year with the Spurs, Castle will be able to learn from one of the best point guards in NBA history, Chris Paul, who sign with San Antonio in free agency. With a mentor like Paul and a rising star like Wembanyama by his side, Castle has the chance to make his mark in the NBA in his first season.

The Spurs had a disappointing 22-60 season last year but appear poised to improve in 2024 with one of the best young cores in the league.
