THE Golden State Warriors failed in their pursuit of two All-Star level talents this summer. First, they failed to attract Paul George of the Los Angeles Clipperswith the two-way forward joining the The Philadelphia 76ers. And then they failed to convince the Utah Jazz to separate from Lauri Markkanen. Nevertheless, management found a way to reorganize after the departure of Klay Thompsonwho left to join the The Dallas Mavericks.
According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, speaking on a recent episode of First Take, Warriors The inability to recruit another All-Star alongside Steph Curry could cost them a chance to contend for a title this season. Smith has been vocal about his displeasure with the Warriors’ offseason moves.
“Looking at the organization as a whole, and specifically Steve Kerr, I’m like, ‘How come we can’t get this brother some extra help?’” Smith said. “… We’re talking about a Steph Curry who still seems to be in his prime. He’s still the best shooter on the planet… You would think people would be clamoring [play alongside Curry]. I don’t know if that was the case.
Despite the failure of their efforts to land George and Markkanen, the Warriors are still well-positioned to make a big move in the coming months. The franchise has a raft of promising young players and future draft picks to dangle in negotiations for the right player.
After adding Buddy HieldWith the signings of De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson earlier this summer, the Warriors will likely be confident in their ability to compete this upcoming season. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t be active if a star becomes unhappy or requests a trade.
