Several times this season, the Sacramento Kings’ struggles at the free throw line have led to unfortunate losses. Although they still rank last among NBA teams in conversion rate at 74.1%, they have made a big move of late.

The Kings have made fewer than 70% of their free throws 21 times during the 2023-24 NBA season, but none have come in the last nine showings. Sacramento converted 84.0 percent of its 19.4 attempts per game during that span.

Earlier this season, the team released a free throw tracker in its practice facility to keep tabs on everyone’s free throws in the game and increased the amount of practice on those looks at different times . Here are the Sacramento Kings’ free throw attempts and conversions in their last nine games.

  • in Toronto: 15/18
  • against Memphis: 26/32
  • against New York: 21/26
  • vs. Los Angeles: 12/09
  • vs. Milwaukee: 13/16
  • vs. Houston: 20/23
  • vs. San Antonio: 17/18
  • in Los Angeles: 10/12
  • against Chicago: 16/18

Their recent improved free throw shooting factored into their six wins during the mentioned nine-game span. Finding ways to get to the foul line and convert when the opportunity presents itself is one of the most effective scoring methods in the NBA.

The Sacramento Kings are hoping their early season struggles continue to be placed further in the rearview mirror as they aim to continue their recent upward trajectory from the line.

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento will play the second straight game Thursday afternoon against the NBA-worst Washington Wizards (11-58) at Capital One Arena.

On December 18, three Kings players scored more than 25 points in a 143–131 victory over Washington at Golden 1 Center, with Domantas Sabonis’ triple-double performance (28 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists) in head.
