Bismack Biyombo who is the center player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, suffered a serious health problem Wednesday while his team played against the Portland Trail Blazers. The injury occurred in the first half of the game as his teammates were leaving the field for a stoppage. Recently, Biyombo signed with the team as an additional player and now he is sidelined.
Suddenly, the 14-year-old NBA veteran fell to the ground. As of now, there was no real reason why he had collapsed. All his teammates immediately gathered to check on him and after a while, Biyombo left the field.
Fortunately, Blazer doctors on scene told Thunder reporter Nick Gallo that Biyombo had no major medical issues. But while the Thunder looked to see what exactly was happening to their experienced big man, he was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game out of an abundance of caution.
When it comes to unforeseen medical circumstances like this, the best course of action is always caution. The NBA has seen the worst potential effects of unexpected drops, despite their rarity.
Most famously, during an off-season workout in 1993, former Celtics tight end Reggie Lewis died on the court following a heart defect. Although Biyombo, 31, does not appear to have had any serious medical issues yet, any sudden fall is strange and undoubtedly frightening. It’s best to err on the side of caution until Biyombo and the Thunder find out the true circumstances behind this.
