What there is to know
The Warriors and Raptors have been tied 5-5 since June 2019, but not for long. The Golden State Warriors’ road trip will continue as they take on the Toronto Raptors at 7:30 p.m. ET on March 1 at Scotiabank Arena. The Raptors suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn things around against the Warriors, who are coming off a win.
On Thursday, Golden State was able to pull off a solid victory against the Knicks, winning the game 110-99. That makes two straight games that the Warriors have won by exactly 11 points.
The Warriors can attribute much of their success to Stephen Curry, who had a double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds, and Jonathan Kuminga, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Kuminga is going in the right direction, as he has improved his point production for three straight games. Less helpful for the Warriors was Moses Moody’s dreadful 0-5 three-point shooting.
Meanwhile, after a three-game winning streak, the Raptors’ good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell 136-125 to Dallas.
This defeat does not tell the whole story, because several players had good matches. One of the most active was Immanuel Quickley, who almost had a double-double with 28 points and nine assists. Another player who made the difference was Jakob Poeltl, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Golden State pushed its record to 31-27 with the win, which was its seventh straight on the road. These victories were largely due to their offensive dominance throughout this period, averaging 124.1 points per game. As for Toronto, their loss dropped their record to 22-37.
Friday’s game is one where the number of possessions will likely be a big factor: the Warriors haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 13.9 turnovers per game. However, it’s not like the Raptors struggled in this department as they averaged just 12.7 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Looking ahead, the Warriors are the favorites in this one, as experts expect them to win by 3.5 points. They might be worth a quick bet since they’re sitting on a seven-game streak of covering the spread when playing as a road favorite.
