The cost of the new roof will be between $7.5 million and $8 million.
HOUSTON — The Toyota Center is getting a new roof.
The Harris County Houston Sports Authority on Tuesday approved a proposal from the Houston Rockets to replace the existing one, in place since 2002-03.
The cost will be $7.5 million to $8 million and will be paid by the team.
The process of removing the existing roof and installing the new one will take four to five months. Work is expected to begin in September and be completed in March.
It won’t affect the team’s normal operations, Toyota Center and Clutch City Sport & Entertainment general manager Doug Hall told KHOU 11’s Jason Bristol. The new roof will also feature a logo, which is still being developed. The current model features a huge Toyota emblem and the words “Toyota Center.”
The new roof is guaranteed for 20 years and can withstand hurricane winds of 146 miles per hour.
The Rockets considered bids from six vendors.
