While the dynastic trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green has remained the same over the years, each iteration of the Warriors is unique year after year.
And this season’s team may have learned that the hard way.
Speaking to reporters afterward Golden State wins 120-105 against the Toronto Raptors on Friday at Scotiabank Arena, Warriors coach Steve Kerr discussed the current success of his team and how an early-season identity crisis might have played a role in a rollercoaster first half before the team settled down, as it led to eight wins in its last 10 games and eight in a row on the road.
“I’ve liked this team all year. We had some struggles early on, but it was more about things falling into place,” Kerr said. “The chemistry has been great from the start of camp. The guys are all committed to each other, they care about each other, they care about winning and we are healthy and have found a good rhythm .
“Frankly, it took us a while to understand our team. We were building on what we were two years ago when we won the championship at the start of the season, and it didn’t work. And I gave it a good, long search and we finally kind of changed things. Between that and having Draymond [Green] back and our kids are really taking a leap forward and the guys like [Kevon Looney] and Moses [Mody] who are so professional, who stand their ground in difficult times, setting the tone for the rest of the group. »
While the 2023-24 Warriors may not be the same team they were two years ago, that doesn’t mean they still don’t possess the championship DNA that led them to four titles in eight years, with veterans like Curry, Thompson and Green. I still believe this year’s team has what it takes to win another Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The Warriors catch fire at the right time and are on course on a top six seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
“We have good momentum and we’re just going to try to keep it going,” Kerr added.
Speaking of that 2021-22 championship team, Golden State’s road trip continues with a marquee matchup against the Boston Celtics on Sunday at TD Garden, where the Warriors dynasty won its fourth championship nearly two years ago .
