The Washington Wizards selected Frenchman Alex Sarr with the second pick in this year’s draft and 12 picks later, they landed freshman Bub Carrington from Pittsburgh. Sarr and Carrington, a D.C. native, are both expected to play big minutes in their first year and need to develop quickly to help speed up the rebuild in the nation’s capital. New head coach Brian Keefe recently spoke with Monumental Sports Network about the two rookies and what they should try to do in their first NBA seasons.
“First of all, it’s his character. He’s a person with a lot of character. He’s a guy who loves the game. Then, we obviously see his versatility, he brings it to both ends of the field, but especially defensively. He can defend in all types of positions.
“He has the ability to be a three-level scorer at some point. But one thing that stood out to us was his ability to see the game and read it. He’s a good passer, so we want him to have the ball in his hands to explore those opportunities so he can make plays for himself and for others.”
“We’re going to play a little bit positionless, so a lot of guys are going to be managing and making decisions. We see him as a guard that can make plays for himself and others. You can see he’s a multi-talented guy, a good rebounder that can push in transition. We’ll see him managing the game with and without the ball.”
