What there is to know
The Pacers and Warriors have been tied 5-5 since January 2019, but not for long. The Indiana Pacers will hit the road to face the Golden State Warriors on Friday at 10 p.m. ET at Chase Center. After both men made the job of their previous adversaries easy, one of them is about to undergo a discouraging change of fortune.
The Pacers entered their Wednesday game as a heavy favorite, and they fully lived up to expectations. They hurt Detroit with a clear 122-103 victory. The Pacers pushed the score to 98-78 late in the third, a deficit that the Pistons reduced but never really recovered from.
The Pacers’ success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Pascal Siakam led the charge by scoring 25 points and eight rebounds. Another player who made the difference was Tyrese Haliburton, who almost had a double-double with 20 points and nine assists.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led the Warriors against the Grizzlies in every quarter en route to victory on Wednesday. Golden State beat the Grizzlies 137-116. With this victory, the Warriors increased their scoring average to 118.6 points per game.
The Warriors’ victory was a true team effort, with many players putting in strong performances. Perhaps the best of them was Andrew Wiggins, who shot 4 of 6 from deep and had a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. Wiggins didn’t help the Warriors’ cause much against the Knicks on Monday, but the same can’t be said for this game. The team also received help from Jonathan Kuminga, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Indiana pushed its record to 39-31 with the win, which was its fourth straight on the road. As for Golden State, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and propelled them to 36-32.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. The Pacers have had no problem running up the score this season, averaging 122.8 points per game (they are ranked first overall). However, it’s not like the Warriors struggled in that department as they averaged 118.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
The Pacers suffered a dismal 131-109 loss to the Warriors in their previous game in February. A big factor in the loss was the dominant performance of the Warriors’ Stephen Curry, who made 11 of 16 from beyond the arc en route to 42 points and 2 assists. Now that the Pacers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check CBSSports.com after the game to find out.
