The rumors surrounding the Purple and Gold are still going strong. Among the wildest proposals is the one that the Lakers are considering signing Luka Doncic. Robert Horry has scoffed at the idea. He’s not the best defensive player right now. He said the Slovenians would fit in well with the Lakers. Still, the club’s appeal requires fans to be imaginative. Stars and future contenders will always be linked to the Lake Show. And after Doncic, the prediction is that Victor Wembanyama will be their top target.
On The Big Shot Bob podcast, while the hosts were poking fun at the Doncic reports, Brandon Harper investigated the Lakers’ history with such outrageous targets. Initially, it was Giannis Antetokounmpo who was linked to the club. Similarly, he believes that in the future, there will be a time when Wembanyama will be in their vision. The co-host was so confident that he even marked the date. Horry, however, only laughed at the idea.
“That’s not going to happen. It’s just a little joke that you always hear everybody say that the next big thing, whoever it is, is always going to be tied to the Lakers. Like you said, we talked about it with Giannis a couple of years ago. Now it’s Luka’s turn. At some point, it’s going to be Wemby… Give him two or three seasons, especially if the Spurs don’t do anything or Wemby isn’t ‘happy,’ you’re going to see his name tied to the Lakers. It’s all in for Wemby.” he said on the show.

There is no denying that the Los Angeles Lakers are considered royalty. Every decade, the most famous stars of the era have been a part of the franchise. From Jerry West to Kobe Bryant and even LeBron James, the theme makes these rumors of fables always have an ounce of possibility in them.
In the case of Victor Wembanyama, he is only in his second year. In addition, with the San Antonio Spurs, he benefits from the mentorship of one of the greatest coaches in Greg Popovich. Such development and attention to detail will greatly increase his superstar potential. However, with this status comes demands for success.
If Spurs fail, will Wemby want to leave? Not according to a French legend who believes Wemby and Spurs are a “perfect” marriage.

Victor Wembanyama always wanted the Spurs
The Spurs’ outlook in the modern era is disappointing. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2019. It took them four years to get out of that rut before finally bringing in Victor Wembanyama. The standout center has been touted as the force that will get San Antonio back in contention.
The franchise has a long history with international players. Tony Parker, Spurs’ latest French star, loved the mix. In his interviews with the 20-year-old, he said Wembanyama had always wanted to be a Spurs player. “He doesn’t care about pressure and expectations, and I think Spurs is the perfect place for him. He’s in very good hands.” said the four-time NBA champion.

Wembanyama also has immense respect for the legend. He speaks reverently about his role as Spurs representative and Greg Popovich’s methods. With his complex vision, he has every chance of becoming the generational player the NBA envisions. Likewise, given his enthusiasm for competition, it’s hard to imagine Victor Wembanyama leaving the franchise without giving his all to transform its stature.
So far, he seems determined to grow and continue his legacy as a Spur.
