Paul George joined the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this summer. In doing so, the nine-time All-Star teamed up with former MVP Joel EmbiidWhenever two stars join forces, the question always arises whether one of them will have to step aside, especially when the game is on the line and time is running out.

On a recent episode of the “P Podcast with Paul George,” the Sixers’ new star reminded everyone that he’s shared the court with plenty of elite stars in recent years. He also noted that Nick Nurse would ultimately have the final decision on who takes the last shot when a game is on the line.

“Whoever Nick Nurse takes the final shot for, we’re going to have the best chance,” George said. “I’ve been in this situation before. I’ve been on teams with other superstars. We live and die with whoever takes the final shot.”

George has spent the last four years sharing the court with Kawhi Leonard, who is arguably the most talented player in the NBA. Last season, he also had Russell Westbrook and James Harden in his locker room. George also had several high-profile teammates during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

So Sixers fans shouldn’t worry about a power struggle between George and Embiid. George’s history in the league has positioned him as either a primary or secondary option, depending on the team’s needs throughout the season.

However, Philadelphia must first ensure that both Embiid and George remain healthy. Neither player has been in top form in recent years. If Daryl Morey’s latest roster shakeup is to pay off, Nurse will need to manage his star’s playing time and keep the playoffs in mind.

However, if the Sixers enter the playoffs healthy, with a clean season on the horizon, George’s presence on the roster will be a huge boost. After a strong summer, which saw Morey sign several veterans, Philadelphia is perfectly positioned to contend for an NBA title. That is, of course, if they can defeat the Boston Celtics.
