Baylor Scheierman arrives in the NBA with a decorated five-year resume at the collegiate level, and the Boston Celtics recently dropped some quick facts about their first-round pick.
Scheierman played the first three years of his career at South Dakota State, becoming the Summit League Player of the Year and a two-time all-conference selection. He finished with career totals of 1,114 points, 635 rebounds, 320 assists and 83 steals with the Jackrabbits.
The soon-to-be 24-year-old spent the past two seasons at Creighton and established himself as one of the top players in the country. He was a third-team All-American and All-Big East first-team pick last year and left the program tallying 1,119 points, 621 rebounds and 260 assists.
Here is one of the five quick facts provided by team senior writer Taylor Snow:
Scheierman is the only player in Division I men’s history with at least 2,000 points (2,233), 1,000 rebounds (1,256), 500 assists (580), and 300 three-pointers (356).
Scheierman was the 30th pick by the Celtics after averaging a career-high 18.5 points, nine rebounds and 3.9 assists on 38.1% shooting from 3-point range last season. He is the only men’s player with 300 rebounds and 110 3s in a season in the last 30 years.
He debuted with the Celtics in the NBA Summer League, averaging 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and one steal on 36.2% shooting from the field in five appearances. He scored in double figures four times, including 15 points and five rebounds on July 19.
Scheierman is the Celtics’ first first-round pick since Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard in 2020. However, he was viewed as one of the most NBA-ready prospects in the draft this year and should have the opportunity to contribute for coach Joe Mazzulla.
