THE Sacramento Kings made one of the biggest free agency splashes in franchise history by acquiring six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan via a trade with the The Chicago BullsThe Kings are a relatively small market, so DeRozan’s pick surprised many.

DeRozan has joined Podcast P with Paul Georgeand the most recent The Philadelphia 76ers The star forward asked DeMar what other teams he would consider as a free agent:

I was thinking about [the 76ers]Philly was definitely an option. The Lakers were always an option. The Clippers were an option, and the Heat were an option. Those teams were definitely the real, legitimate personal options I was considering.

DeMar DeRozan, Sacramento Kings

DeRozan explained why he chose Sacramento, but a big part of his argument was that the NorCal franchise showed him how much they wanted him. DeRozan saw the vision for where he fits as a King and how he can help them take it to the next level and be a part of their new winning culture.

I was just looking for an opportunity to win at a high level… [Sacramento] They started to take an interest in the team, and they showed real interest. So when I sat down and looked at the team, I analyzed the team. Great players, great coach, and I always remember the last two years where I always saw them shine and win and all that… You always want to be part of a contagious culture of an organization that wants to win… I just felt like it was a good fit.

DeMar DeRozan, Sacramento Kings

DeRozan had good reasons for his choice, and it’s certainly interesting to hear that the beam played a role in his recruitment. The six-time All-Star could have teamed up with LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard or Joel Embiid, but he chose the Kings to team up with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

DeRozan would have made an immediate impact on any team he chose, but his fit in Sacramento is arguably the one that makes the most sense.

The 35-year-old star winger is expected to have a huge impact in Sacramento, and his decision to join a historically struggling franchise over the past The Los Angeles Lakers, Miami HeatPhiladelphia 76ers, and The Los Angeles Clippers could well be a historic moment for the Kings.
