Ellis still appreciates Steph’s steal but knows Warriors star will respond originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Keon Ellis was a defensive force against Steph Curry when the kings eliminated the Warriors of the NBA Play-In tournament in April.
Ellis helped limit Curry to 22 points and force a game-high six turnovers. in Sacramento’s 118-94 victoryand he stripped the Golden State superstar in a highlight-reel play he’ll never forget.
Ellis recalled that signature steal earlier this week on “The “Deuce and Mo Podcast.”
“Anytime I can, if somebody upsets me and I shoot them, that’s the best of the best,” Ellis told NBC Sports California’s Deuce Mason and Morgan Ragan. “There’s nothing better than that.”
Stripping Curry summed up Ellis’ dominant night at Golden 1 Center, as he finished with three steals, three blocks, four rebounds and five assists as a two-way connector. He scored 15 points and was plus-27 in 39 minutes.
Warrior Guard Klay Thompson was also limited, He failed to score a single point on 0-of-10 shooting in his spoiled Finals at Golden State, adding to the legend of “Ellis Island.”
Sacramento third year guard had a really good time that night. He even hit Curry’s Signature “Good Night” Celebration after the victory – a courageous move, given that the “Chief” loves revenge.
“My only thing, though, is that I only did it because [Curry’s] “A troll,” Ellis told Mason and Ragan. “I love it. Oh, I love it. It was just a little troll.”
“Honestly, people on the [Kings] The staff was like, ‘Are you sure you want to put this out?’ I was like, ‘I don’t care. I don’t care. If he goes out and kills me, it’s Stephen Curry. But I have this preparation before every game. I’m not going to try to go out there and get fucked by anybody.’
Curry will surely have his sights set on Ellis and the Kings when they meet again twice in the preseason next month and again in the regular season on Jan. 5 at Chase Center. But Ellis doesn’t shy away from a challenge, and as he put it, this is “Stephen Curry” we’re talking about here.
“Not just looking at the picture, but the fact that we beat him up and hit him or whatever… I imagine he’d probably try to go out and do his thing,” Ellis said. “But basketball, that’s what we’re here for.”
We’re here because Ellis lit up Curry and sent the Warriors home healthy for the first time in the now-expired Curry-Thompson-Draymond Green era.
