As well as Anthony Davis played over the last two seasons for the The Los Angeles LakersMany believe he could do even better if he were moved to power forward from time to time.
He’s played almost exclusively at the 5 the past two years, and some believe the Lakers need to acquire a legitimate starting center and start Davis at the 4 in order to take a step forward. After all, that’s the setup they used in the 2019-20 season when they won their last NBA title.
In the past, Davis has said he prefers to play the fourth position, and he has reportedly reaffirmed that desire to the organization.

“One thing Davis has made clear to the Lakers, sources told ESPN, is his preference to play alongside another big more often,” Dave McMenamin wrote.
Of course, the problem is that Los Angeles doesn’t really have another player capable of filling the No. 5 starting spot.
“The Lakers are thin midway through the season with Christian Wood expected to be out at least eight weeks following left knee surgery, leaving Jaxson Hayes and two-way player Colin Castleton as the only other healthy centers on the roster,” McMenamin added.
During the 2019-20 campaign, the Lakers had JaVale McGee as their starting center, and he was part of a solid duo with Dwight Howard. They were reportedly interested in Jonas Valanciunas, a 6-foot-2, 260-pound center, but he opted to sign with the Washington Wizards, who just finished last season with a 15-67 record.
However, McMenamin reported that Valanciunas is someone the Lakers can continue through trade in the coming months.
