French Guard Evan Fournier signed a two-year, $4 million contract with Euroleague club Olympiacos on Monday, ending a productive 12-year NBA streak.

Fournier, the 20th pick in the 2012 NBA draft, was traded from the The New York Knicks At Detroit Pistons on Feb. 8 after playing sparingly for head coach Tom Thibodeau. He became a free agent this offseason after the Pistons declined his $19 million team option.

The 31-year-old attracted interest from the Euroleague when he became a free agent and ultimately chose to return to play in Europe. He revealed in an interview with First Team Sports that he refused an offer from the Washington Wizardsaccording to French journalist Maxime Aubin of L’Equipe.

Fournier saw his role diminish toward the end of his tenure with the Knicks. After playing 80 games during the 2021-22 season, Fournier has made just 30 combined appearances over the past two years, including three last season. He played 29 games with the Pistons after his debut on Feb. 13.

The veteran ultimately opted out of a smaller role with the rebuilding Wizards as the organization prioritizes the development of Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, Georges Kyshawn And Alex Sarramong others. He will now have the opportunity to play for one of the best teams in Europe.

Fournier is averaging 13.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 704 games with five NBA teams. He has also helped France win two Olympic silver medals, including this year in Paris.
