Former Detroit Pistons forward Markieff Morris is returning to Dallas.
Sources confirmed to Shams Charania of The Athletic that Morris, 35, has agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks, who are coming off a NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics, have reportedly prioritized re-signing the forward, who will enter his 14th NBA season.
In 26 games last season with the Mavericks, Morris averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds.
During the 2019 free agency period, Morris signed with the Pistons and proved to be a solid addition during his brief stay. In 44 games (16 starts), he averaged 11 points and 3.9 rebounds. He was a reliable scorer, shooting 45 percent from the field and just under 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Shortly after the 2020 NBA trade deadline, Morris and the Pistons agreed to a contract buyout. He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers a few days later and helped them win the 2020 NBA championship in the Orlando bubble.
Before Morris played in Detroit, his twin brother Marcus played for the Pistons for two seasons (2015-2017).
In addition to the Pistons, Lakers and Mavericks, Morris played for the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets.
The Suns selected Morris with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft out of Kansas.
