Anyone who has ever scrolled through NBA social media has seen the iconic meme of Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns display DeMarcus Cousinswho was then playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. However, few people may know that this former Timberwolves guard Jeff Teague he may have played a role in its creation, according to his story in a recent episode of his Club 520 podcast, which included an appearance by Cousins.
“I remember you telling me crap. You were like, ‘Why aren’t you playing?’” Teague asked Cousins during the show, according to the clip shared by user X@Well, eh…. “I was sitting on the bench during a game. I was like, ‘Next time we play, I’m going to play.’ He was like, ‘Are you afraid to do this? [Rajon Rondo]! He was scared of “Do.” And I was like, “What?” So we went to Minnesota, played them, and I was on the field and I was like, “Yeah, motherfucker.” I was like, “KAT, beat his ass!” He was like, “What?”
The Timberwolves meme is born

Amid laughter from his co-hosts and cousins, Jeff Teague continued his podcast story.
“Dude, it’s a picture. KAT is posting, he’s looking at our bench like… I said, ‘Bro, this is crazy,’” he said. When asked if he was the one behind the meme, the former point guard added, “That’s him, man.” However, DeMarcus Cousins deflected and said the Karl-Anthony Towns meme was actually born because of Teague.
Still, Teague continued his story on the Timberwolves.
“KAT gets in position and he looks at him. I’m crying, bro, I’m like, ‘Yeah, my bro is crazy.’ And then he goes on offense like I told you. He starts on Cuz, Cuz goes to the basket, KAT just wrapped him up. They’re like, ‘Switch Taj [Gibson]” and he said, ‘He can’t run against Thibs! He’s gotta defend somebody!’ I said, ‘Oh, he’s crazy.’ I said, ‘That guy’s crazy, man.’

During his career, Teague won an All-Star selection with the Atlanta Hawks and won the 2021 NBA Championship with the Milwaukee BucksMeanwhile, Cousins, a four-time All-Star received a ring Los Angeles Lakers to their 2020 title, although he never played a single game for them due to injury. (The ring also doesn’t count toward his career accomplishments.)
However, this did not stop him from joining Dwight Howard overshadowing GM Rob Pelinka for breaking up the championship team. After an 11-year NBA career, Cousins moved to Asia where he dominated the Asian leagues, winning a championship with teammates Howard and Quinn Cook at the Asian tournament in Taiwan.
Currently, Karl-Anthony Towns is looking for his first NBA title. Timberwolves’ Much-Criticized Trade for Rudy Gobert paid off, helping them reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years, although they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in five games.
