Montrezl Harrell was selected 32nd overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. After spending three years in Houston, Harrell was sent to the LA Clippers in the Chris Paul trade. Harrell has emerged as a premier offensive player coming off the bench in LA, winning Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2020, averaging 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Having missed all of last season with an ACL injury, Harrell was released by the 76ers before the start of the season. At just 30 years old, Harrell should have several more years of basketball ahead of him, but they may not come in the NBA.

This was reported on Tuesday by ESPN’s Olgun Uluc that Harrell signed with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia.

“NBA veteran Montrezl Harrell has agreed to a contract with the Adelaide 36ers, sources tell ESPN,” Uluc wrote. “Harrell — a 6-foot-10 power forward and the 2020 NBA Sixth Man of the Year — will replace Jarell Martin due to injury, sources said. Martin has recovered from a patellar tendon injury, but he has a foot condition that could keep him out until November.”

Harrell has spent eight seasons in the NBA, averaging 12.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in his career. Depending on how Harrell recovers from his ACL injury, the 36ers could land a top-tier player.

Limited defensively due to his size, Harrell has always been a very talented offensive player. Few NBA players still play primarily in the post the way Harrell did in his career, and it was very effective.

Harrell played for the Rockets, Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets and 76ers during his eight NBA seasons.
