Four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins spent 11 years in the league, playing for the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets.

Cousins, one of the best centers in basketball in his prime, was a member of four All-Star teams and two All-NBA teams. Never having won a championship, Cousins appeared in the NBA Finals with Golden State in 2019, where they lost to the Toronto Raptors.

Announcing his retirement from the NBA earlier this year, Cousins said via Cyro Asseo of Choch “I know I had my time there. You know, there was a time where I was trying to make it happen. But where I am in my life now, with everything that’s going on, just outside of basketball, I’m in a good place.”

Cousins added in the February interview: “So, like I said, I’m excited about what’s ahead and what my future holds. You know, my 12 years in the league have been a little chapter or chapters in my life. And I’m ready to move on to the next one and see what’s ahead.”

On Monday’s episode of the Club 520 podcast, Cousins made a new statement about retiring from the NBA and why he’s not actively pursuing a return to the league.

“As far as trying to convince these guys of what I am and who I am, I’m kind of done with that,” Cousins said. “If an opportunity comes up and it makes sense to me, I’ll consider it. I’ll definitely consider it. But as far as going out and trying to reach out to them, I’m past that.”

Cousins has spent time playing overseas since retiring from the NBA, which he says he enjoys.

“That’s so cool,” Cousins said. “I love it, man. Honestly, I just got a whole new respect for the game of basketball. You’ve been brainwashed into thinking that the NBA is the ultimate level of basketball. That’s a fact, but when you think about it, there’s only 600 guys in the league? There’s two billion people playing basketball. So you’re telling me the 601st person isn’t good?”
