Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey received the most votes to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award in a poll of coaches, executives and scouts conducted by ESPN.

Edey led Purdue to the national title last season, averaging 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and two assists on 62.3 percent shooting. He became the first player in more than 50 years to be unanimously voted Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

The ninth overall pick was limited to two summer league appearances due to two ankle injuries. He recorded 14 points, 15 rebounds, four blocked shots and one assist in his debut on July 8 and had six points and three rebounds in his second game on July 18.

His exact role next season is still unknown, but the 6-foot-4 should fill several needs for the Grizzlies with his size and ability to protect the paint. If he can carve out a regular role, he should be in good position to win the Rookie of the Year award.
