What there is to know
The Hawks have quite a challenge ahead of them as they are expected to be run off the field. They will hit the road to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET at Crypto.com Arena. Both teams suffered a loss in their last match, so they will have a lot of motivation to win the “W”.
The Hawks’ recent rough patch got a little tougher Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just to Utah by a score of 124-122. The game was as close as oddsmakers predicted, but the Hawks were slight favorites.
Dejounte Murray had a good effort for the losing team dropping nearly a double-double with 33 points and nine assists.
Meanwhile, it’s hard to win when you don’t work as a team and post ten fewer assists than your opponent, a fact the Clippers found out the hard way on Friday. They suffered a 112-104 hit in the loss column against New Orleans.
The Clippers’ defeat should not overshadow the performances of Paul George, who scored 26 points with six assists and five rebounds, and Kawhi Leonard who scored 23 points with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Atlanta’s loss dropped its record to 29-37. As for Los Angeles, they have struggled recently as they have lost three of their last four games, which has significantly dented their 42-24 record this season.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. The Hawks have had no problem running up the score this season, averaging 119.4 points per game (they are ranked fifth overall). However, it’s not like the Clippers struggled in that department as they averaged 116.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
The Hawks fell short against the Clippers in the teams’ last game in February, losing 149-144. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll know soon enough.
