The Dallas Mavericks will look to continue their recent streak of good play when they host the struggling Utah Jazz on Thursday night.
Dallas (40-29) improved its chances of getting out of the play-in tournament by winning six of its last seven games. Meanwhile, Utah (29-40) bowed out of the playoffs after losing 14 of its last 17 games. NBA Odds.

THE Utah Jazz have been in free fall over the past month. They have lost six of their last seven games, continuing a recent streak in which the team has struggled to beat anyone. Utah went from what appeared to be a strong playoff contender to being well outside of final play-in position in the Western Conference.
Some of this slide can be attributed to injuries, although that’s not the whole story. Best striker Lauri Markkanen (23.0 ppg) missed seven games this month while recovering from – and now maintaining – a quadriceps contusion. Jordan Clarkson (17.4 ppg) also missed last night’s game with a groin issue, his fourth consecutive absence from the lineup.
As of midday Thursday, it remains unclear whether either of these players will dress tonight, as it is the second half of a back-to-back game for Utah. My best guess is that Markkanen will be in the lineup after sitting out Wednesday, while Clarkson will likely miss at least one more game.
Regardless, this is a team that no longer produces offensively like it once did. Utah has hit the Under in each of its last three games and has been held below 110 points in four of its last five games – all losses.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks are playing their best basketball of the year as they aim for a top-six seed in the Western Conference. Luka Doncic (34.1 points per game) and Kyrie Irving (25.4 points per game) seem to have figured out how to play together optimally, which has made them one of the most dangerous backcourts in the NBA.
Dallas tends to like to play at a fast pace, but still manages to look controlled and deliberate on offense when Doncic has the ball. This has allowed the Mavericks to successfully play a variety of different styles, which has been on display the last few nights. Dallas has hit the Under in four of its last five games, but that has hardly been a problem, as the Mavericks have triumphed every time the Under has hit.
Both of these trends lead me to wonder how many scores we can expect in tonight’s contest. Regardless of who Utah matches up with, I have my doubts about the Jazz’s ability to score against a Mavs team that seems locked in right now. The Jazz will also struggle on the second night of a back-to-back, which tends to cause offensive production to drop a few points.
If the Mavs continue to play the style of basketball that has brought them so much success lately, we shouldn’t see a scoring barrage.

The Under is my best bet tonight, and it will also be the first leg of my same match. Additionally, I’ll take the Mavericks to cover the wide 14-point spread. With the Jazz lineup in tatters and playing the back-to-back rematch on the road, this game shouldn’t be close.
As usual, it will be Doncic who will lead the Dallas offense this evening. I complete my SGP by getting him to score at least 30 points in tonight’s game. Luka has reached that total in 10 of his last 13 games and should be able to get to work against Utah.

Jazz vs Mavericks spread and Over/Under analysis
The Mavericks opened tonight’s game as 13.5-point favorites against the Jazz. That number grew further, with the books split between Dallas’ offer at -14 or -14.5.
Although they have struggled as of late, the Jazz have been good against the spread, going 37-32 against the spread this year. Dallas has had similar success with bettors, going 38-31 against the spread this season.
Spreads this large are always scary when it comes to the NBA, as any team can sometimes stay close to a superior opponent. However, Utah is coming off a game in Oklahoma City last night and will struggle against a Dallas team that had an off night. The Mavs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games, and I’m leaning toward taking them in coverage again tonight.
Tonight’s game total started at 238.5 points. This figure has decreased slightly, with the consensus Over/Under now standing at 237.5. You can find -110 on either side of the total for most books.
Utah has generally played over this year, with the Over holding a 37-30-2 advantage when the Jazz play. Dallas went the opposite way, with the Under having a 36-33 advantage in their games.
Both teams have been hitting the Under with some regularity lately. Utah has had a bit of trouble scoring following injuries to Markkanen and Clarkson, while Dallas has played better defense in recent games. These factors all lead me to expect a competition with lower scores.
