It took more than 20 years, but the LA Clippers have finally stopped sharing a building with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, when the Clippers look up, the team will no longer have to look at the banners of their Pacific Division rival. It’s a moment that Lakers legend James Worthy is truly excited about.
In an exclusive interview with Tomer Azarly of ClutchpointsJames Worthy was asked about the Clippers finally leaving the Lakers building, and his answer might surprise Clippers fans.
“I am happy to see that their owner, [Steve] Ballmer took a great interest in the city of Inglewood, creating jobs and housing,” Worthy said. Clutch points“He’s got a big room there. I mean, it’s a big room… the Clippers finally have a home they can call their own. They don’t have to look up and see the Lakers championship banners, even though they covered them up, so it’s nice that they have that.
You might expect James Worthy to go after the Clippers because of the animosity between the two teams, but he did the opposite. In fact, Worthy said he has friends who work for the Clippers and said they are a “really good” organization.

“I remember when they were in San Diego and they were coming from L.A., so it’s cool to see,” Worthy said. “It’s a really good organization, I know a lot of the people that work there, not the players and stuff, but the vendors and the tickets and so yeah, I think they do a great job.”
The Clippers finally getting their own stadium is not only a great moment for the Clippers, but a great moment for Los Angeles. It’s something that should excite everyone in the area, even the most dedicated Lakers fans.
