Los Angeles Lakers point guard Max Christie received one of the greatest gifts a professional athlete could ask for when his brother, Cam Christie, was drafted just down the street to the LA Clippers. While they aren’t on the same team, they have the chance to live together and learn the ropes of the NBA and the city of Los Angeles together, something many people never get to experience.
Max is entering his third NBA season while Cam is entering his first, which means the Lakers point guard has the opportunity to teach his younger brother a thing or two along the way. He also gets to watch Cam carve his own path in the league and learn how to become an effective NBA player.
Lakers brother Christie spoke about the joy of seeing Cam get drafted, where he was drafted and why it will be so great to have him in the same city, via Jovan Buha of The Athletic:
“Yeah, this week has been phenomenal for the Christie family. I signed my contract a few days later and he got drafted as well, so it was really good for our family. With him being on the Clippers, it’s probably the best-case scenario you could hope for. Especially as two brothers, we both play in the same city, but for opposite teams. So it’s really cool, and it’s really cool for me as an older brother to see him progress and go through the things that I went through and how he builds his own path, creates his own path and his own way. So we’re going to be spending a lot of time together this season, when we’re both home. So I’m looking forward to seeing him continue his career and his journey over the first four years that he’s signed.”
While both Max and Cam are considered solid defensive guards with consistent offensive play, the Lakers guard spoke about some of the key differences between himself and his brother:
“That’s a good question. I think we’re a little bit similar. I think he’s a more mid-range player than I am. I like the mid-range but that’s his bread and butter. I think for me, offensively, the three-pointer is probably my trademark. He loves to rebound and I think for the first few years, he’s going to have to adjust a little bit, being a rookie. You’ve got to be able to do that, especially on a Clippers team with James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, you’ve got to be able to spot up, they’re going to get most of the touches. That’s something he excelled at in college, he excelled at in high school. And he can still shoot and score the ball from all three levels. He’s a very talented player, he’s been with me a long time, we’ve worked together. So we push each other and we’re both very good players. He’s going to have a great career ahead of him.”
Cam obviously won’t be able to play on the ball the way he’d like alongside some of the stars on the Clippers roster, but luckily he has Max nearby to help him adjust his game to become a more appropriate role player in his early years.
This year is shaping up to be an upward year for Max with the Lakers, and it will be all the more rewarding to have Cam by his side.
Max Christie Gets 73 Rating in NBA 2K25
NBA 2K25 has released its full ratings for the upcoming game. Max received a lower score with a 73 overall.
The Lakers player who could see his the rating has increased the most this season But this is Max. He’s only 73 right now, but after signing a long-term contract to stay with the team, he’s expected to be a staple in JJ Redick’s rotation this year. And if that’s the case, then Christie will have a chance to show what kind of 3-and-D player he can be in this league.
