Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has upset many people with his recent comments about Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s playing days.
“I didn’t watch it at the time, so I can’t speak to that,” Edwards said. Florsheim Alley of the Wall Street Journal. “They say it was harder then than it is now, but I don’t think anyone had the skills back then. [Michael Jordan] “I was the only one who really had talent, you know what I mean?”
Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett was one of the prominent NBA figures to respond to Edwards’ comments, saying that no one in our era could have played 20 years ago.
“To be honest, man, I don’t think anybody from this generation could have played 20 years ago,” Garnett said. “If I’m 100 years old. That’s for Ant, that’s for everybody in our league… Let me tell you something, man. Twenty years ago, you couldn’t do a three-step back… And then if you shot that thing, it had to go in. You know why? We were efficient back then, man. It was so hard, it was too physical. The league had to get out of it so that the flow of movement could run up the score, that’s why we’re sitting here and watching the rat race of this high-paced game.”
While many share Garnett’s views on the Jordan era, the 2008 NBA champion has also upset many people with his views on the current era. Among them, 2016 NBA champion Richard Jefferson, who shared his reaction in an Instagram comment.
“A lot of players from this generation could have easily played,” Jefferson commented under this ESPN Instagram post. “ANT was wrong and uninformed with what he said, but let’s not pretend. Come on.”
