THE The New Orleans Pelicans Birmingham Squadrons, G League affiliate have published their program for the next 2024-2025 season on Tuesday.

The Squadrons finished 15-19 in the Eastern Conference last season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

The Pelicans have Malcolm Hill, Jamal Cain and Trey Jemison under two-way contracts this offseason. The trio will get plenty of playing time with Birmingham, but Jemison could be used in the NBA at times to add depth to their depleted frontcourt.

New Orleans lost Jonas Valanciunas, Larry Nance Jr. and Cody Zeller to various trades this summer. They responded by signing Daniel Theis to a one-year deal and writing Yves Missi from Baylor University. The team also converted the Karlo Matkovic contract during the summer.

Matkovic played for the squadron last year and in 10 games he averaged 17 points and 7.9 rebounds late in the season.

Jemison played with Birmingham in 2023, and his consistent play earned him a spot on the team’s roster. Memphis Grizzlies to close out the year. The Birmingham native started 14 games for the Grizzlies and scored a career-high 24 points against the Washington Wizards.

The Pelicans aim to play in a small group this season, but a physical presence like Jemison could help them in the meantime if the team suffers injuries.

The young center stands 6-foot-10 and weighs 280 pounds, which already makes him one of the biggest players on the New Orleans roster.

Star forward Zion Williamson will likely be used at center this year, but health is still a concern for the two-time All-Star.

The Pelicans have worked hard to drum up fan interest in their G League team by hosting preseason games in Birmingham over the past two years. New Orleans announced plans to renovate Legacy Arena for $125 million in 2020, with the team set to begin play there in 2021.

The squadron ranked second in attendance in its first year in Birmingham.

TJ Saint once again leads the team as head coach.

He was previously an assistant coach and associate in the team before being promoted. Birmingham have not yet consolidated their squad, but are holding trials on September 21.
