New York Knicks acquired OG Anunoby on December 30. The veteran forward’s defensive ability has been seen as a major asset for Tom Thibodeau’s team. With a player option for next season, the Knicks knew they might have to re-sign him in the offseason as they looked to keep him long term.
However, Anunoby has been dealing with a serious elbow injury since joining New York. He missed 18 games between January 29 and March 10. He returned to the rotation for three games, but missed New York’s win over the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
And according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who spoke on Monday’s “NBA Countdown” show, Anunoby’s absence will likely last more than one game.
“I’m told that OG Anunoby is going to release more than just [Monday night], that right elbow broke out again,” Wojnarowski said. “They need it to calm down. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out for, but it’s certainly a concern for this Knicks team that doesn’t know Julius Randle’s status moving forward, and for now, they’ll miss OG Anunoby more than this game .
