Many NBA players take their rating of NBA 2K personally. Kevin Durant doesn’t like the rating of the new edition NBA 2K25, which came out on September 6.
In a video trailer for Durant’s latest episode of Boardroom posted to social media Thursday, the Phoenix Suns All-Star didn’t mince words when he got a score of 94 out of 100. The video is at promoting his 2K25 battle against New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner.
“I’m a 94? This is crazy. I’m sick of this sh–t,” Durant said in disgust.
Durant is ranked ninth in the game’s top 10 out of 100 players. But that ninth-place finish isn’t up to his standards, having fallen from 96th in the previous year’s 2K24 game.
This year, reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets (97) is back in the lead, as he was last year. Durant is behind Dallas Mavericks No. 2 Luka Doncic (97), Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo (97), Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2024 MVP finalist Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (96), Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid (96), Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry (95), Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James (95) and 2K25 cover star Jayson Tatum of the 2024 NBA champions Boston Celtics (95). Lakers’ Anthony Davis (94) rounds out the top 10.
Durant has repeatedly stated how irritated he is that he cannot believe the number 94.
“It’s crazy, though. I’m a 94, right? Seriously, it’s crazy. I’m going to have to talk to somebody about it,” Durant said.
When asked for his top 10 players in terms of rating, Durant guessed Jokic, Doncic, Alexander, Antetokounmpo, Tatum, Embiid, New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and teammate Devin Booker. The latter two ranked 12th and 13th with a rating of 93. Booker’s rating dropped one point from last year, while Brunson’s rating increased five points.
Bradley Beal of the Phoenix Suns is 52nd, with an 85, and rounds out the Suns’ top three with Durant and Booker among the game’s top 100 players. The grades change incrementally each year.
Durant was the league’s fifth-leading scorer with 27.1 points per game in 75 games played in his first full season in Phoenix since being traded from Brooklyn in February 2023. He earned 2024 All-NBA Second Team honors after the healthiest season he’s played since tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2019 NBA Finals while with the Golden State Warriors. Durant also won his fourth gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, the most ever won by the United States men’s basketball team, and became the all-time leading American scorer.
