As the 2024-25 season approaches, one of the main storylines in the Detroit Pistons This will be Cade Cunningham’s game. After an impressive campaign last year, many have mentioned him as a young player who could make the jump to All-Star level talent.

Cunningham is coming off his best season in the NBA, averaging career-highs in points (22.7) and assists (7.5) per game. After an offseason where management increased his shooting, the former No. 1 overall pick might be able to increase his production even further.

At 6-foot-2, Cunningham has the size to be an offensive threat downhill. He also showed an effective mid-range shot last season, but his outside shot is still being refined. Cunningham shot just below league average last year (35.5 percent) on about five attempts per game.

Based on recent videos that have surfaced online, Cunningham already appears to be preparing for training camp. In a short clip that was shared on social media, the Pistons point guard appears to be continually working on improving his outside shot.

In terms of personal qualities, being a deep threat is what keeps Cunningham from being an all-around threat on offense. If defenders start to force him out from the three-point line, it will give him more room to operate and showcase the most effective parts of his game.

After the All-Star break last year, Cunningham had an impressive stretch before being benched. One thing that stood out was his outside shooting. Over his last 18 games, he averaged 24.4 points per game on just under 40 percent from three-point range. If he can replicate that early-season success, the Pistons should see another uptick in production from their top prospect.
