Wednesday evening, the Kings of Sacramento head to Scotiabank Arena for a road meet against the Toronto Raptors. The Kings beat the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime. The Raptors were dispatched by the Orlando Magic. Tip-off is at 7:40 p.m. ET. Sacramento opens as a road favorite.

The raptors lose again

The Raptors suffered their seventh straight loss Sunday night, a 111-96 loss to the Orlando Magic. Jordan Nwora led the Raptors with 18 points. Gary Trent Jr. scored 15 points, and Immanuel Quickley and Bruce Brown each had 12. They are missing most of the starting roster, with Jakob Poeltl, Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett still out.

Toronto led the NBA in fast break points after scoring 37 in a loss to the Magic on Friday night and was held to just 16. They went 8 of 31 from 3-point range and committed 18 turnovers. They went without a field goal in the first three minutes of the second half and the Magic pulled away. Newcomer Nwora went 7-for-9 from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds in 25 minutes. “Opportunity is something you have to seize when the moments come,” he said. “Obviously it would be a lot better if they got a few wins, but that’s part of the NBA you have to learn.” Toronto is 24th in defensive rating, and they are in full tank mode at this point in the season. They hold a disappointing 23-45 record.

Kings prevail in OT

Domantas Sabonis notched his 50th straight double-double as the Sacramento Kings needed overtime to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 121-111. Malik Monk scored 28 points, adding six rebounds and six assists as the Kings improved to 5-1 in overtime. Sabonis finished with 25 points and 18 rebounds, and De’Aaron Fox had 23 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. “Having a guy like Malik close out the way he did was a lot of fun to watch,” Mike Brown, Sacramento coach said. “We just put the ball in his hands and put them in pick-and-roll, and he was able to create a little separation and hit his average game, and he was really on top tonight.”

The Kings played most of the game without starting goaltender Kevin Huerter, who exited with a left shoulder injury just 1:51 into the first quarter. Huerter was attempting a layup when Desmond Bane made contact with his left arm, sending him to the floor. Bane was called for a common foul. Huerter remained on the ground before heading to the locker room holding his arm. He is doubtful for this game against the Raptors.

Jordan Nwora had another big game for the injury-depleted Raptors, playing a nice role for the tanking team. That makes four straight games with double-digit points for Nwora, who led the Raptors in scoring in a poor offensive effort from his team as a whole. Nwora has played a small role off the bench for Toronto since his arrival, but with injuries and losses piling up, he could see some additional carry down the stretch. On the season, Nwora is averaging 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.4 triples per 36 minutes. That should be enough for Toronto to cover the spread against a Kings team that hasn’t played well recently. They won’t win, but the Raptors will beat the spread and the Kings will come out with a W.

The Kings and Raptors are 12th and 13th respectively heading into this inter-conference meeting. RJ Barrett missed Toronto’s last three games, including Sunday’s game against Orlando, to be with his family following the death of his younger brother. During his pregame media availability, Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said Barrett had no timetable to return and was getting all the time he needed. The Raptors don’t have much left in the tank, and they will once again rely on Nwora to deliver the score. Sabonis should be able to control the paint, preventing easy buckets and second chance opportunities for Toronto. Grab the bottom here.
